Felt Slippers

These are cute for boys or girls. Hobby Lobby has a lot of really cute felt including cameo, polka dots, animal prints and so many others. These only cost around $0.75 for me to make and took about 20 minutes from start to finish.

tons of ideas

There are tons of ideas on the Martha Stewart website. We got several of our ideas there. If you are looking for something specific that isn't posted yet, please leave a comment on the blog or facebook, or call Laura or Heather. We'll be adding things to blog as the day goes on.

12 days of Christmas bags

Here is a 12 days of Christmas idea using 12 Christmas stories. You could easily adapt this idea in many ways. They put all the items in one bag and made one delivery. You could do that, or take one per day, which is more common. They gave an item to go with each story. You could do that, or just give them the story every day. Either way, it is a fun way to do the 12 days of Christmas. I think many families would enjoy getting these stories. You could also use a few different stories if you have certain ones that your family really enjoys.

Mom, I'm Bored Jar

This is a jar you can make to give your kids ideas of things to do when they are bored. There are printable ideas, but I recommend adding your own as well. You may want to leave some of their ideas out, too, depending on your own personal preference.

Sock Monkeys!

To make a sock monkey, you will need one pair of socks (one sock for the body and legs and the other is for the arms, tail, mouth, and ears)

WARD SUPER SATURDAY

This Super Saturday activity is for the entire ward to attend. Each auxiliary will have projects to work on (High Priests, Elders, Young Men, Young Women, Primary, and Relief Society). We need your help! Please come and have fun working together! We will meet at the church at 10, then break up into groups and work on a wide variety of projects. Hope to see you there!

sewing class

Tuesday night (Sept 7) we will be making pillowcase dresses at the church at 6:30. The Young Women will be joining us as well. If you want to make this project, you will need to purchase fabric (measure from the chest down to the length you want it and add several inches for seam allowances. If you want two coordinating fabrics, you will need 10 inches. You can also add embellishments such as rick rack or ribbon if you want. For the top straps you can use ribbon or a little more fabric.

Remember, you can bring any project you want, if you aren't interested in this particular project. Come and sew with us! It's really a lot of fun. If you don't know how to sew, this is a great opportunity to try it out. This is a very easy project that would make a great gift.

Please remember to bring a sewing machine if you have one, an extension cord if you have one, and scissors, fabric, thread, etc... If you have a rotary cutter and mat, that would be great to bring also.

Car Seat Covers and More

Ann will be teaching us how to make car seat covers at the church at 6:00 Tuesday, August 10th. You will need 2 different contrasting colors of material. One yard of each if you want to make the ties out of fabric. (or you can make the ties with ribbon which is much easier, in that case bring 3/4 yard of each fabric, and then you will also need contrasting ribbon for the ties on the top). Also if you want embellishments such as rick rack then you should bring that as well. Please bring a sewing machine if you have one, along with your thread, scissors, etc, and an extension cord if you have one. If you are not interested in making this project, feel free to bring along whatever project you are already working on. It's a lot of fun to sew with everyone else!

The Humanitarian Board is collecting school supplies: glue sticks, crayons, colored pencils, child scissors, pencil sharpeners, stickers, and construction paper. If you can help out we would appreciate it. To involve the youth and Primary kids we are holding a contest. We will have baskets in front of the primary doors and the Young Women/Men's doors for the next three weeks. Drop your donated items in to help them win!

The Humanitarian Board is also collecting fabric of any kind and size. The would like to start making bags for school kits as well as quilts. If you have anything to donate contact Stephanie Duvall.

Tuesday the 17th: Clothing Exchange: the last one went well...there were a lot of cute things! If you are interested, please look through the closets in your house for items that have been outgrown and bring them along that night. You may come and choose items even if you do not bring anything. This is a great chance to get a few new items for kids for school for free! Adult clothing and baby clothing will also be exchanged...whatever you have!

Please contact Valerie McCorristin if she doesn't yet have a picture of you for the ward directory. If you don't have her contact info, send an email to wardcookbook@yahoo.com and we will send it to you in a private message.

Upcoming Activity

April 22nd at 6:30 pm

30 Meals in a Day

by Penny McEntire

She will demonstrate making/preparing 17 different meals that evening. It will go fast... it usually takes about 1 hour and 15 minutes once she gets started. It goes very quick! You will receive a packet of recipes, menus, shopping lists and information.

She has asked us to provide the following:

3 large pizza pans,

non-stick spray,

3 small zucchini, sliced very thin,

2 large white onions, chopped very small,

1 pkg. of sliced mushrooms,

2 pkg. cream cheese,

2 lbs. shredded mozzarella cheese.

If you would like to sign up for an item, please comment.

Also we are looking for a few volunteers to come early to help set up and prepare. If you are able to come at 5:45, please sign up also!

Flirty Aprons at 6:30!

Thursday, March 25th, Ann Haymond is going to show us how to make flirty aprons. You will need 28 inches of one color for the body of the apron and 2 yards of a contrasting color for the ruffles. This amount will make 2 aprons. You could share material with a friend or use on for a gift (Mother's Day is coming up!) If you would like to make a children's apron you will need 16 inches of fabric for the body and 1 yard for the ruffles. For a boy's apron you will not need the ruffles, just a little fabric to make a pocket for tools, etc. If you have a sewing machine, please bring it. We will be meeting in the Relief Society Room.

Ann has offered to help you "ruffle" your fabric in advance, which will save you a lot of time and effort. If you would like her to do this for you, please take it to her ASAP so she will have time to do it. Out of courtesy to her, please do not wait until the last minute to do this. Her address is 265 N 1070 E.

If for some reason you cannot provide material for this project, please contact a member of the Relief Society Presidency and they will provide some for you. We would love for everyone to participate. This is a great way to learn those basic sewing skills!!!

If you haven't signed up to be a fan on Facebook, please do so by clicking on the link on the right hand side of this blog (you have to scroll down quite a bit). This helps us to get more reminders to you!

Home Organization and Cleaning Tips Activity

Thursday January 28th at 6:30 pm.
Please send us an email (wardcookbook@yahoo.com) with your
favorite organization and cleaning tips
so that we can include it in our handout.

We are still trying to put together a visual presentation to show you but we
NEED
PICTURES!!!

If we don't get pictures we can't do this.
If you would be so kind as to send us a picture of something you have
organized in your home, OR let us come and take a picture,
we would be so grateful!
Send us an email at the address above. We need to get the pictures done by Tuesday night.
If you have multiple things...we can use as many as we can get. If you know someone else who has something cool to share, let us know and we will contact them.

Also, we will have a children's class but we need to know in advance if you
will be bringing your kids. We need to know how many and how old they are so we
can make sure we have sufficient supplies. Mothers who bring children will take turns in the class so that everyone gets a chance to participate. The Young Women will not be watching the kids. (This is what the church has asked us to do for our activities instead of having a typical "nursery.") Please send us an email or reply to this post to sign up for the children's class.

Home Organization and Cleaning Tips Activity

Our next Relief Society Activity will be held on January 28th....more details coming soon! Check your email because we are sending out requests for your favorite organization and cleaning tips so that we can put together a booklet for everyone to take home that night. Thanks Sisters!

Children's Class

The next children's craft will be held on January 21st at the church at 10 am. If you are interested in providing the craft one time, please respond to this post. We will be sending around a sign-up sheet for the whole year at church. We will generally meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month (January is 1st and 3rd, though).

Here are the details from the sign up sheet:
Please sign up if you would like to prepare a simple craft for little kids to do together (you don’t have to have a child this age to sign up!). This is for children age 1 to 5. They are able to do simple tasks such as coloring, cutting, pasting, etc. The craft can be based on an upcoming holiday or season but does not have to be. Also, if you have a story to bring, that is always fun as well. If you would like to, you are welcome to bring a simple, non-messy snack (for example: in November we had mini cornucopias which were sugar cones filled with Runt candies, & in January we did a snow man craft & had a snowman snack of marshmallows, baby carrots, and baby chocolate chips). If you would like to sign up with someone else and work together, that would be great, too. (Maybe one can do the craft and the other can do a story or snack, etc.)
